Reached Abidjan 11:45 a.m. and had dinner at the Hotel de Commerce. [We were] granted an audience with the governor at 4:00 p.m. It was very successful. Mr. J.I. Birkey remained with me at the hotel while the other four gentlemen had two interviews with the governor and Wesleyan Missionary. The last named was not so satisfactory.
