The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Wednesday Morning February 19, 1930 On board the SS Brazza (Editor’s note: During this phase of their trip around the world, Mrs. Forrest got food poisoning and came very close to dying. Even though she was tremendously sick, she continued to keep up with her daily diary entries.) Did not have a very good night. Breakfast served in the room. If Richard had not been here to encourage and help, it never would have gone down. God enabled me to dress and go on deck. How I do not know? Feeling better

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine February 17, 1930 Paris, France Monday night 9:00 p.m. We said goodbye to Hotel Edward VII and our beautiful room and comfortable beds. Our train left Bordeaux at 9:50. We boarded her with a great deal of misgiving since the trip from Cherbourg to Paris was so uncomfortable and crowded. We dreaded a night on “Waggme Lits.” Imagine our surprise and delight to find two comfortable beds and a whole compartment to ourselves! It was really more convenient and comfortable than our American Pullman berths. I believe it was ever better than

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Friday, February 14, 1930 We were up at 6:30 a.m. and everything is bustling to get breakfast over and be ready to leave the good old Aquitania. There is the coast of France and everybody is so excited. Breakfast at 7:30 was served half an hour early. Passports were stamped and the baggage was ready to leave at 9:15 a.m. Two small boats, one for mail and the other for baggage and passengers, came steaming majestically up to the Aquitania. On board the tender or small boat, there was an awful scramble

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Monday, February 10, 1930 Slept late and feel fine. Richard went down to breakfast but I had mine served in bed. Then enjoyed a good hot salt-water bath. It was so restful and refreshing. Then a brisk walk on deck and we were both ready for lunch. Wrote cards and letters, slept, and read. I had so much pep after my salt bath [that I] unpacked some things from the trunk and put out my dinner dress. I really enjoy dressing for dinner – at 7:00 p.m. After a brisk walk on

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Thursday, February 6, 1930 What will today bring of joy or sadness? Richard had to rush away before nine to meet an appointment, and I had coffee and toast alone in my room. Purchased a Ford Station car for $750 cash. Praise the Lord! Mr. Geo. Bell certainly was happy, for he is to have the use of it for his station in Africa. He had been praying earnestly for just such a car. (Lunch at the hotel with Mr. Shuman and Geo. Bell.) Wrote cards to students while Richard attended Board
