Looking unto Jesus

WHEN WE HAVE A NEED, where do we look for solutions? Most of us look everywhere else except to the One who can really help: Jesus. He is God and is able to help whatever the need. He is also man and therefore understands our inabilities. Even more than that, He delights when we look to Him for the solutions to our problems.

When I served as Director of Spanish Churches for the C&MA, I had an office in New York City. One day a pastor from Queens came to my office to share what had been happening in his church. He shared about a father of four from the Dominican Republic who said, “I have been here for 10 years and for several years have not had a job but have been on welfare. However, a month ago I came to this church and found Jesus Christ as my Savior. The following week I found a job and now I am able to support my family, so no more welfare.” This man learned an important lesson: first look to Jesus and not to
others.

When you feel discouraged, look to Jesus. When you feel you are at your wits’ end, look to Jesus. When you are stressed, look to Jesus. When you are to the point of despair, look to Jesus. When you have nowhere to turn, look to Jesus. When you are lonely, look to Jesus. When you suffer pain, look to Jesus. When you are offended, look to Jesus.

Remember the words of a hymn by Oswald J. Smith, “The Savior can solve every problem, the tangles of life can undo; there is nothing too hard for Jesus, there is nothing that He cannot do.”

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
