The Forrests

Evelyn and Richard Forrest had planned a very simple marriage service. Had they wished it, an elaborate wedding was out of the question because neither had any money; and yet when the time came, they were amazed at the large number of friends who drove from Wilmington and Newark, and from a number of points in Pennsylvania. . . . The ceremony was performed at eight o’clock in the evening. . . . Richard’s heart almost burst with joy and pride as he stammered: ‘I do.’ Calmly his beautiful bride in turn promised to be his. Throughout more than fifty

Expect Great Things!

During World War Two, more than five hundred former Toccoa Falls College students enlisted or were drafted into some branch of military service. As the end of the war came, so also came the problem of taking care of many of these boys. Most had married and now had families. Yet, their greatest desire was to return to the college and complete their education. Dr. Forrest believed the need for living accommodations for married students provided just one more opportunity for the Lord to perform another miracle, and that is what happenedt. Fifteen comfortable and attractive cottages—each having five rooms—were

Trees of Righteousness

After a devastating fire in March 1913 threatened to close the college, God gave Dr. Forrest a promise that has become the college’s anthem of faith: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners . . . to comfort all who mourn . . . giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of

Favorite Photo of Dr. and Mrs. Forrest

This is one of my favorite photos of Dr. and Mrs. Forrest. Her niece Mrs. Betty Rhinehart gave it to me several years ago during a visit to her home in Punta Gorda, Florida. I had the opportunity to sit for hours talking with this dear woman who remembered Uncle Richard as a very godly man but also as a person who loved to laugh. “Before he would leave,” she said, “he always said, ‘Well, let’s have a little prayer.’” The Forrests were very balanced people and this is what they conveyed to everyone they met. They loved to have
