The Value of Saying Yes by Mrs. Evelyn Forrest

Sometimes God closes one door of service in order to open one that is far broader. This is the very reason we need to take stock of His work in our lives. If we sense Him changing our direction, we need to be willing to make that shift with Him. Most of my young life was spent longing to become a missionary to West Africa. When God prevented this from taking place, I realized I was standing at a crossroads. Would I trust Him for my future even though I did not like the idea of seeing my personal dreams

Faithful and True By Mrs. Evelyn Forrest

” As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord they God is with thee withersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:5-9). Joshua’s source of strength and confidence in the great military campaign he was about to undertake rested in the Word of God and God’s promise of His presence. The same is truth for you today. Whatever the battle, whatever the conflict, Jesus is your strength, but you must trust Him—roll whatever complaint or

Richard and Evelyn "Going Steady"

“During the first part of Richard’s stay at Nyack, Evelyn Drennan was also one of the students. By this time, the two were ‘going steady.’ Although sweethearts, they agreed on and engaged in a form of rigid self-discipline and did not take advantage of the privileges granted engaged couples. This was a lesson, which aided them throughout succeeding years. “It seems that there was a young couple attending Nyack at that time, a couple whose open shows of affection was quite sickening to all around. Noticing the reaction of all to these two, Richard wrote to Evelyn, who was two

Through The Bible with Mrs. R.A. Forrest Radio Station WRLC Toccoa, Georgia Good afternoon friends and members of our Radio Bible Class. Did you read that comment on the daughter of Karl Marx the Communist, which appeared recently in a magazine called The Dawn? I read it this morning and it impressed me so much that I would like to pass it on to you. The article was called, “The God of That Prayer.” The God of That Prayer “The daughter of Karl Marx, the Jew who became prominent as one of the founders of the modern Communist movement, said

Through The Bible with Mrs. R.A. Forrest Radio Station WRLC Toccoa, Georgia November 23, 1941 Good afternoon friends and members of the Radio Bible Class. Since this is our Thanksgiving broadcast, I want to take this opportunity to ask you to stop for a moment and ask God to show you at least three things for which you are grateful. I know from reading your letters that many of you are facing hard times. But yet, God is faithful and we must never forget this. He has a plan for our trials and we can be sure that it is

A Note from Mrs. R. A. Forrest [May 25, 1941]

Commencement days always bring mingled feelings of joy and sorrow. I have joy for those graduating because they have run the race well and have completed the course. But there is sorrow, too, because they are leaving. I need not tell you that this Sunday is our Commencement Sunday in Toccoa, and out at Toccoa Falls the spirit of Commencement has been in the air all week. While I am teaching this Bible study (on the radio), one of our first graduates Rev. Frank E. Morey, who is now a Methodist minister from the northern part of New York State

Mrs. Evelyn Drennen Forrest

Evelyn Drennen Forrest was born in Cecil County, Maryland, on February 16, 1879. She grew up on a small township of Appleton. Her parents were Olive Griffith Drennen and Samuel Drennen. Olive Drennen often remarked that from the time Evelyn was very young, her daughter knew she wanted to become a teacher. When Evelyn was 20, she received her teacher’s certificate. However instead of joining the ranks of other educators, she decided to enroll in the Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, New York, which later became Nyack College. By this time, God had shifted Evelyn’s focus. She wanted to become

The Forrests

Evelyn and Richard Forrest had planned a very simple marriage service. Had they wished it, an elaborate wedding was out of the question because neither had any money; and yet when the time came, they were amazed at the large number of friends who drove from Wilmington and Newark, and from a number of points in Pennsylvania. . . . The ceremony was performed at eight o’clock in the evening. . . . Richard’s heart almost burst with joy and pride as he stammered: ‘I do.’ Calmly his beautiful bride in turn promised to be his. Throughout more than fifty

First Missionary Tour to French West Africa and Palestine

February 8, 1930 — May 29, 1930 Editor’s note: the online diary you have been reading chronicles the Forrests trip into Africa, through the Middle East, and Europe. It is preceded by another journal that until recently was not discovered. When we complete the Palestine entries, we’ll pick up Mrs. Forrest’s diary written in French West Africa. It was really the first one written. In it you will read how their trip abroad was not only an opportunity for them to experience a lifetime dream but also to go on a honeymoon. This was the first one they had in
