The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Friday, May 2, 1930 Paris, France Hotel Edward VII. It is so good not to have to get up early. Had breakfast in our room. Then Richard went out to have his shoes mended, film developed, see about our tickets home and to London tomorrow. After lunch we took a taxi for the Eiffel Tower and the World in Wax. These are the two things in Paris we wanted to see this time. The catacombs in wax was the best part. The tower is wonderful. Richard said it would prepare use for

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Thursday, May 1, 1930 On the train between Rome and Paris 6:00 a.m. Had to change trains at Milan. The Paris train was certainly crowded. I sat on a little seat in the aisle and watched the baggage after the train had started, while Richard hunted seats. Finally, he found two vacant seats in a compartment with an English family, two ladies, who were sisters returning from India with two boys and a girl; it is needless to say they did not give us a cordial welcome. At the border of Switzerland,

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Wednesday, April 30, 1930 Rome, Italy Ordered a taxi this morning, for there are three special things we must see. The Vatican Museum is the first on the list, hundreds of people were already pouring into it when we arrived. It is far beyond anything I have dreamed of both in extent and grandeur. It was impossible to see everything in our limited time. Next we drove out the Appian Way and thought of Paul’s arrival and welcome to Rome. We visited the catacombs—they cover acres of ground and go down six

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Tuesday, April 29, 1930 Rome, Italy We “must see Rome also.” Richard is feeling better this morning although his head still aches. Had breakfast in our room and left Naples at 9:30 a.m. The country is quite different from what I expected, many mountains and tunnels, long tunnels and more tunnels. The soil is black and looks very rich, all under cultivation—great fields of wheat and buckwheat the latter in full white blossom. The trees are trimmed flat like a hand and used for grape trellis’s, many wires from tree to tree

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Sunday, April 27, 1930 Naples, Italy 5:40 a.m. So glad to get up early for we are near Italy and expect to reach Naples by 7:30 a.m. A heavy fog retarded our progress and we did not land until after eight. Through customs without any trouble and took the bus for the Grand Hotel. Oh! What a contrast, a hot bath surely feels good. Rested all morning. After church we took a drive around the city. Such narrow dingy streets dirt and poverty everywhere but the King’s Palace occupies a whole block.

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Wednesday, April 23, 1930 Jerusalem Just one week since we arrived in Jerusalem and now we must leave. 5:30 a. m.—breakfast and all the family were present to see us off, even baby Richard. Bag and luggage—we drove in a comfortable sedan car to visit, five Jewish colonies including Tel-e-viv, which is near Jaffa, the ancient city of Joppa. Saw some wonderful orange groves and a Jewish agricultural school. Took the train at Ludd for Cairo and at 10:30 p. m. arrived in the city. It rained all the way across the

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Tuesday April 22, 1930 Jersalem Up a little before five and breakfast was announced at 5:30. At 6 a. m., we started for the Sea of Galilee. Miss Butterfield, Dad, and I are in an open touring car. I wore my winter coat, and we had two lap robes, which felt very comfortable as we drive over the mountain. We will pass through Nazareth the boyhood home of our Saviour and many places of interest before we reach the beautiful Sea of Galilee where Jesus preformed so many miracles. As we leave

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Monday April 21, 1930 Beer-Sheba 6:00 a.m. Up and almost ready for breakfast, started home twenty minutes past seven. Aside from the cold it was a wonderful drive home through the fields of waving, golden wheat and barley. The hired hands are busy reaping in the ancient way with the sickles and transporting the golden sheaves to the threshing floor on the backs of camels. Could not take a picture for we had used our last film. At Hebron we visited Abraham’s grave in the Cave of Macphela. A Mohammed Mosque is

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Sunday April 20, 1930 Easter — Jerusalem Awake at daylight on this most important day of our trip. (5:30 a. m.) Up and ready to start for the service in the Garden Tomb. (7:00 a.m.) Mr. Smalley conducted the service and Richard gave the message. He spoke with great liberty and a fresh anointing. A large crowd had gathered to worship the living Christ. “He is not here, He is risen!” After the service we had breakfast and then prepared for the 11 o’clock service in the American Church. Richard preached again

The Diary of Evelyn Forrest’s Trip to Palestine Saturday, April 19, 1930 Jerusalem We both dressed for breakfast this morning but I rested and straightened out our clothes. Richard and Miss Butterfield visited the Temple area, including the Mosque of Omar the Mosque of Aksa and Solomon’s stables and was introduced to the head of all the Moslems in Palestine. In the afternoon while Richard prepared for the services tomorrow, I went with Miss Butterfield and Miss Shimp to see some new Jewish colonies. On the right high up on a Mt., we saw Nebi Samueil the burial place of
