A Mighty Rushing Wind

Editor’s note: The following was written by Angela Ramage, 1988 Alumna. When I stepped up to the window of the old dining hall to take this photo I was not expecting to feel anything other than the need to photograph the fireplace before the wrecking ball hit. Soon the old dining hall and the two add-on buildings beside it will be gone. At that moment, only the afternoon light was slightly drifting through the windows. But suddenly before I could lift my camera, the entire room was aglow with light from the setting sun. It was beautiful and I was

Christmas 1958

Dear Folks,As we approach Christmas, my mind is filled with memories of things in my life, which had their beginning during this season. On Tuesday night before Thanksgiving 1898, as a teenage boy in the home of my Sunday School teacher, I accepted Christ as my personal Savior. I gave my first public Testimony in an early morning Thanksgiving Day meeting. On Christmas Eve 1901, I was married to the woman whom I felt then, and still feel, to be the loveliest, most beautiful girl in the world. In January 1902, I accepted a call to become the pastor of

Love Letters to Home

Editor’s Note: In 1936 during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, Richard Forrest was away from home on a “round the world” trip. Evelyn had been scheduled to travel with him but an accident—a slip on a bedroom rug—earlier that year prevented her from going. She had gone with him in 1930, but she would never have the opportunity to do this again. That one fall changed their lives forever. We have collected several of the letters he wrote to her while he was away. They are very personal, but we felt as though sharing them with you at this time

All things new With the trappings of Christmas neatly packed away, thoughts turn to a new year—one that promises new beginnings, new challenges, and new opportunities. Leo, the guy that takes care of the yard, recently went through a list of things that he planned to do while the weather was still cold. He would clean up any stray leaves; trim the hedge that was growing out of control; and cut back the wild honeysuckle bushes in the backyard. Then he would turn his attention to the liriope that borders the driveway. “We’ll cut that back by the first week

Christmas at Toccoa Falls in 1918 Editor’s note: The following is written by Rev. John Hubbard, who was an early principal. His account of Christmas at Toccoa Falls was published in the school’s monthly newspaper entitled Southern Greetings. “The Christmas season was a joyous occasion at the school. All of the workers and almost all of the students remained here for the vacation time. On Christmas Eve, we had a wonderful service of a decidedly spiritual nature. Dr. Forrest gave a message on the significance of Christmas, based on John 3:16. This was followed by a testimony meeting, in which

Evelyn Forrest's Trip to Palestine

Editor’s note: The diary that contained the Forrest’s trip to Africa in 1930 was recently discovered and we want to share it with you now. Dr. and Mrs. Forrest left Toccoa on February 3, 1930. The diary that you have been reading each week actually follows this one. During a recent search of the archives at Toccoa Falls College, the African diary was found in a folder tucked away in the back of a filing cabinet. Over the next few months, you will be reading about the early part of their journey around the world. Then we’ll conclude with their
